Good morning everyone,

Sometimes when things happen, they happen fast.  Normally, I have found that things happen very slowly here, but yesterday was different.  I received a call from our attorney yesterday about 1pm.  He said that there were two little girls who desperately needed a home.  I initially told him that with Wilson Ivan coming just a couple of weeks earlier that I did not really have a place for two, but he told me that a little 3 year old girl was "rescued" from her mother today, and she would be sent to Nueva Esperanza if we did not take her.  The other little girl (only 1.5 old) was already in the nursery at Nueva Esperanza, and the judge was ready to sign the paper right now if I said yes.   A little after 5pm, Daniela and Ely were here.  That was fast.  You can read the whole story on my blog at www.faithhome.net (Rodney's blog "For the Love of God).  Here is an excerpt.

I called Teresa, and she said, “We have to take them.”  But, how and where do we put them?  Before making a decision, I had to talk to the house parents of the cottage where they would be.  Taking a 3 year old is more work, but taking a 3 year old and a 1.5 year old is a lot more work, and they already have 10 children.  As I talked with them, they said that our worst was so much better than where they would be.  They talked about how they felt that God might want these girls at Faith Home, and even though it would be more work, they wanted me to say yes!  For the love of God, they are willing to open their lives to a lot more work every day!

Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for Daniela and Ely what a day they had yesterday, and what a life they have already had.
2. Pray for many people to step up and support the girls and Wilson Ivan who just arrived a couple of weeks ago (remember his mother died).  We need God to move the hearts of about 30 people.  Ely is still in diapers so that is yet another expense.
3. Pray for Wilson Ivan as he grieves his mother's death (so far he is adjusting well).

Thanks for the prayers!  Help us get the word out.  Forward the email on to others who are not on the list.
Rodney & Teresa

PS.  I hope you have heard.  We are collecting items for another container to arrive here late this year.  Containers are such a blessing to us.  If you did not receive the list via email for GBI, let me know.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are taking our furlough in October and will be available to speak at churches during that month.  We arrive home on Oct 1st late that night and will be home until Oct 29th.  Right now the only Sunday we have booked is October 17th.  If you would like us to speak at your church just let us know and we will put you on our schedule if at all possible.

Blessings

For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

This month has been a whirlwind, and we still have over a week left.  We started the month by taking 17 of the children to Copan to see and experience the Mayan ruins.  We also hope to enlighten the children to the uniqueness of their country.  This is a 3 to 3.5 hour bus ride from FH, but worth it!  It was amazing to take the 2 hour tour through the ruins.  It is amazing what the Mayan people did (picture below).

The next day Tania and David headed back to the States for furlough (not vacation).  Yes, it is a more relaxing than the many things here and yes it is time spent with family.

The children then celebrated Teresa's birthday with gifts and presents.

On Monday May 10th, we were up very early.   Josephina, now 19, has wanted to go live with family for some time, but until recently, we knew of no family.  A cousin was located and after Josephina adamantly expressed her desire to be with family, we began the process.  A court social worker talked with her cousin, assessed the situation and then the judge granted Josephina's request.  Monday very early Josephina was taken to her cousin's place about 2 hours from Faith Home.  She was all smiles and seemed to be so happy there. We pray that she will be content and happy with her family.

Later that afternoon, Teresa, Hector, Maria and myself took 8 of our children to another orphanage on the other side of El Progreso.  This orphanage has so little, so we were taking a few supplies that they need, and we wanted a few of our kids to see how other orphanages do not all the things that they do.  It was a good trip and a good time, and all the children seemed to be interested. Though this orphanage did not have much, the woman in charge loved and showed that love to all the children!

Tuesday (May 11th) in the afternoon about 1:30pm, things changed suddenly.  We had gone to town for several reasons as we had many times before.  Only this time as we sat at a stop light in good area of town, I was within a few seconds staring down the barrel of a 9mm handgun as two armed men accosted us.  Many, many things happened in the next 90 seconds or so that followed.  Most of these things seem surreal at this point.  Some people stopped to help, and several shots were fired.  One of the robbers had taken Teresa's purse, but witnesses saw him throw the purse down a few blocks away.  The police recovered it.  In the end, we know that God protected us.  Even the policeman said, "these things do not happen like this in Honduras.  God was protecting you."  You never know how quickly life can change!  We have been to town since then and I confess it felt a little strange as we drove past the spot.  No, we did not go out of our way to do that!  Where this all happened we drive past nearly every trip to town.

Last week, we took the birthday kids to Pizza Hut and these 7 can eat ALOT of pizza.  They always have a good time, and frankly it was nice for Teresa and I to unwind a little bit and just have some fun with the children.

This past Saturday, 15 of our boys were invited to come to Olympic Stadium.  They were allowed to play a practice game on the field.  They thought that was great.  The game was supposed to start at 8:30am and did not start until 10:30, still the boys were patient and excited about stepping on the lush green grass field of Olympic Stadium.

Besides these things, we have had 2 main water leaks along missionary row that had to be dug up and repaired.  The construction continues on the addition to the transition house.  The roof is now completed.

I don't know about you, but I am getting tired so I will save the rest for another update.

Thanks for all the prayers and encouragement that we received after our experience on May 11th,

Rodney & Teresa Walls

PS.  I know that July seems a ways off, but Teresa and I will be back in July for the Summit.  If you would like to hear more FH stories at your church please let me know, and we try to come.  Currently, July 4 and 18 are open both morning and night.

April Newsletter David and Tania Willis Faith Home

2010
I know it has been quite a while since my last newsletter with Facebook and blogs I know most of you already keep up with most of what is going on at Faith Home and with us.

The first part of this year has been very busy with MVP teams. The Yarbrough team worked on our school and got it ready for the new year and also took all the children to the water park for the day.

In between teams our container arrived with many of the needed supplies for Faith Home. Thanks to everyone who was involved in any way with getting these supplies to us. Here are Teresa and I sitting on all the duffle bags and boxes full of clothing, shampoo, soap, shoes, school supplies and all the things you sent.

The next two teams were construction and maintenance teams that did repairs. The Rushing/Zeller team was one of these teams and they laid all the block for the transition house addition and hooked up our new generator. Now if we have a crisis we will have power, at least as long as we have diesel fuel.

David and I will be home in May and still have open dates for May 16 and 23 at night and May30 morning or night service. If you would like us to come and speak please email soon.

The medical team was the next team in and as usual the ministered to 100’s of people both physically and spiritually. Last but not least were the Holland team and the Hendrixson/Murphy teams which were also maintenance and construction teams. Thanks to everyone for all the work that has been accomplished so far this year.

Teresa and I have started a new bible study for the Colegio girls that is all the girls that attend school off campus. On Mondays the girls in the transition house attend and on Tuesdays the younger girls attend. When bible study is over we have started a small business we are teaching the girls to make earrings and bracelets and also we are making Faith Home T-shirts to sell to the teams that come.

We have set up our books so that 50% goes for expenses, 10% tithe, 10% savings and the rest goes into an account for the girls. They get to take a small salary each month and I save the rest for them. This way they can learn that you have to work hard for things they will not always just be given to them and we have some extra money put back if they need something or maybe even for when they are ready to leave Faith Home. Thanks teams for all your purchases!!

It has been a while.  It definitely has not been because nothing was going on.  It has been both trying and productive.  The weeks have gone by and I want to bring you up to speed on a few things from FH.  We have had 6 teams in a row and that adds a lot to our normally busy weeks, but we are thankful for all that was accomplished over this period.

The container did arrive, and it has been sorted out.  That took weeks to finish as Teresa, Tania, Robyn and Kristyn all worked on that one.  After it was sorted in the votech, David and I (okay, David, I only did some) had to bring pickup loads to the office supply rooms to then be put away.  Teresa is today finishing a clothes distribution!  It had been a while, and the children were all thrilled to get new things.  To distribute clothes to the campus took 3 full days!

Since my last update, the walls have been constructed for the new addition at the Youngblood house.  This was one of the VBS offering projects.  Speaking of that (VBS Offering projects), the new truck was purchased as well.  We digressed from the previous tradition this time (I have attached a photo.  Any guess as to what we did differently?).

The chapel is complete.  The Stain glass windows have been installed and the pulpit that came on the container has been placed on the platform.  We had a local man make us a couple of plaques for the pulpit that I think turned out great.  See the picture below.

We also had our first Senior pictures taken.  Brayan is scheduled to graduate this coming November.  He will be our first to graduate from Colegio.  He has worked hard and we are proud of him.

I have a couple of UNSPOKEN prayer requests!  Thanks for praying.

Blessings from FH!
Rodney and Teresa

To say that we had an eventful year does not seem to be adequate!  We saw our first young lady leave the program and go out to make her mark in the world.  Dunia moved in February 2009.  In May, our family here grew by two more as Jasmin and Keilyn were placed here by the second children's court.  Their brothers, Brayan, Jose and Jonathan were already her, so May 14th was a beautiful family reunion.  May 28th brought a violent wakeup call a little after 2 am to the extent of a 7.3 magnitude earthquake.  Though the campus sustained significant damage (cottage 6 had to be closed because of safety concerns), NO ONE WAS HURT!  The children did sleep outside on the ground for about a week.  They were afraid to sleep indoors.  One month later to the day (June 28th) the political problems took a dramatic turn to he worse and the next three months were uncertain times.  Again, we praise God that politically things have greatly improved.  The election came and went without problems and the newly elected government is governing.

The children are doing great.  This year we have Jorge and Mauricio in their last year of mechanics school, 24 (Leticia, Ana Elsi, Dago, Eder, Jessica, Kenia, Julissa, Kency, Doris, Suyapa, Erika, Odalin, Selvin, Nehemias, Henry, Allan, Ingrid, Yoni, Victor, Rahem, Luisa, Evangelina, Vanessa and Brayan) attending high school in nearby La Lima.  Glenda and Iris have been enrolled in a beauty school in La Lima, and 4 others (Jose Pacheco, Ariel, Giancarlo and Jose Ricardo) will be attending a technical training school in San Pedro Sula.  Wow, is what comes to mind for us here as we have so many growing up all at the same time.  The children need your prayers, and so do we as we try to help them grow up into good Christian Honduran citizens.

We are appreciative to all of you who support the children.  You may never know in this life what a difference you are making, but you are making a difference.  Last year, Teresa asked you to send an extra $20 for your child, so that we could take them out for pizza during their birthday month.  You came through, and the kids absolutely loved this!  Plus it gave us an opportunity to spend some time with them in a smaller group.

One of the challenges that we face is to get the children more connected to their culture and to their country, Honduras.  We are making several adjustments to accomplish these needs.  What we want to do is to start taking in small groups all the children on a day trip to Copan to see the Mayan ruins.  This is a piece of their history.  With travel and food expenses, it will cost about $100 per child.  If each sponsor would send a small one time donation marked "Children's Trip," we could make this a reality.  In the future, we would like this trip to correspond with the graduation of 6th grade.

Our commitment to God and to you is to do the best we possibly can to train up the children in the path of Christ.

Thanks for letting God use you to touch a life!

Dear Sponsor,

Hello from Faith Home!  Another year is flying by and our children are growing and changing daily.  This year we have been blessed two new children arrived at Faith Home.  On May 14th Jazmin age 6 and her sister Keilyn Pacheco age 5 joined our family.  This was truly a family reunion because their 3 brothers Brayan, Jose, and Jonathan Pacheco have been part of the Faith Home family since December 1999.

We want to thank you for your sponsorship of Henry Edgardo Alvarado.  Henry born Feb. 27, 1995 is 14 years old now.  He attends Colegio in La Lima.  Henry says his favorite color is black, his favorite activity is riding a bike, his favorite food is pizza and right now he would like to be a singer when he grows up.

Again this year we have asked each child to write a short letter to their sponsor.  If your child was too young to do this, we had them draw a picture for you. Remember they are trying to write in English which is not their native tongue so please excuse any errors that they may have made. We are striving to make your sponsorship experience more personal.  We have included a picture, which was taken this February by Don Witter (Fairfield, IL) who so graciously provides them for us.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us.  We are trying to create an email data base of all our sponsors so that we can keep you better informed.  Sending an email saves money on postage, paper and printer ink and allows us to communicate more often.  If you have an email address please send it to us.  Check the Faith Home website (above) and our personal website www.davidandtania.com for the latest news from Faith Home.

Again thank you from everyone at Faith Home.  Our staff, our children and our house parents also lift you up in our prayers and we believe God will bless you for the support that you give.

God Bless you,
David & Tania Willis
